Science-based Targets

Science based emission reduction targets

Optima’s UK operations have committed to reducing Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030, against a 2022 base year, while continuing to measure and reduce Scope 3 emissions.

Adopted through the SBTi’s streamlined route for SMEs, this near-term target has been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative and supports our longer-term ambition to reach net zero by 2050.

  • Scope 1 & 2

All direct emissions from the activities of an organisation or under their control. e.g. mains gas.

    Progress

Achieved a 35% reduction in Scope 1 emissions (market-based), well on track toward our 42% reduction target.

    Scope 1 & 2
  • Scope 3

All other indirect emissions from assets not controlled by the organisation. e.g. delivery of purchased materials

    Reduction

Reduced our total measured Scope 3 emissions by 43%. This is principally as a result of adopting aluminium with a minimum of 75% post-consumer recycled content.

    Scope 3

Keeping our pathway measurable

Credible carbon reduction depends on consistent and accurate data. We measure and report our emissions in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and ISO 14064-1, publishing annual updates against our 2022 baseline.

As our reporting develops, we are moving from spend-based estimates towards more precise activity-based data. We also plan to seek third-party verification of our greenhouse gas inventory management system, strengthening the transparency and accountability behind our net-zero pathway.
